Lenovo Thinkpad W700 – the artist’s dream laptop

At SIGGRAPH today, Lenovo annouced a line of 17″ powerhouse laptops for the artist set. The thing probably has enough computing power to decrypt the launch codes for every nuclear missle in the world, since it features an Intel Quad Core Extreme processor (yes thats right, FOUR CORES in a laptop), a 1 gig NVIDIA’s Quadro FX 3700 video chip, and the ability to carry up to 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM.
But that isn’t the coolest part. You see what looks to be a big trackpad next to the little trackpad? That’s actually a small Wacom-built digital tablet. For those artists out there Wacom makes THE best artist tablets on the market, and to see one built into… well… anything, is unprecidented! This really is a dream device for any photographer, retoucher, 3d artist, or 2d artist out there.
It’s just a shame its so damned ugly. Seriously Lenovo, get an industrial design team over there, you’re killing me.
